This wire is an alloy of nickel and chromium with a melting point that will give high performance if operating temperatures do not exceed 1010oC (1850oF). Its particularly suited to heavy duty rheostats and controls that require compact resistance. Bare wire is available in standard AWG sizes in 113 g spools.
As these alloys posses the characteristics of high resistance, low temperature coefficient of electric resistance, high operating temperature, good corrosion resistance under high temperature, especially under the atmosphere containing and/or sulfides, as well as the lower price, it is widely used in industrial electric furnace, household electrical appliance and far infrared ray device. Nichrome wire is commonly used as a resistance heater for cutting foam (Styrofoam, polyurethane, etc.) fabrics, and a variety of other materials.

We stock 16-22, 24, 25, 28, 29 and 31 gauge Nichrome-60 wire sold by the foot (packaged in a plastic bag) - A commonly used wire is 21 gauge. It might require some experimentation to determine the best gauge to use for your material, and what the correct tension and temperature is.
